Kostya, twelve years old, has lived with a ventricular septal defect – a hole between the wall that separates the lower heart chambers – since birth. If the defect was not repaired and the hole closed, Kostya risked heart failure, atrial fibrillation, pulmonary over-circulation, stroke, and in several years – death.
He was successfully operated at the The Bakulev Center, in Moscow, without the need for open heart surgery using an occlude.
